A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to store. Cookies let a site remember things between page loads — your theme, or, in the case of advertising, which ad to show you. This page explains exactly what GameLedger sets, why, and how to stop it.
Our Privacy Policy covers the wider question of what we collect about you. This page is about cookies and similar local storage specifically.
1. The categories we use
1.1 Strictly necessary
These are the cookies that make the site function, and they are set without asking because the site cannot work without them. They do not build a profile of you and they cannot be switched off.
- Theme choice. A cookie records whether you picked the dark or the light theme, so the site does not flash the other one on your next visit. It contains a single flag, nothing more.
- Session and load balancing. These are set by our hosting infrastructure to keep a request routed to the same server for the length of a page load, so a slow server does not make the site feel slower.
1.2 Functionality and preferences
These remember choices you have made so the site behaves the way you left it. They are stored in your browser's local storage rather than as cookies, and they never leave your device.
- Theme preference. Whether you chose dark, light or system mode. Stored
under the key
nff-theme. - Interface state. Which sorting and filter options you last used on the games index, so returning visitors get their view back.
Because this is local storage rather than a cookie, clearing your browser's site data also clears these. There is no personal information in them.
1.3 Analytics and measurement
These help us understand which pages are useful so we can prioritise work on the site. The data is aggregated. We use it to count page views, see which genres people read and which pages nobody opens. We do not use it to build advertising profiles and we do not share it with advertisers.
1.4 Advertising
GameLedger is funded by advertising served through Google AdSense, and the advertising technologies involved set their own cookies. This is the category most people are asking about, so here is the detail.
- DoubleClick cookie. Google's advertising services use the DoubleClick cookie to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. It is how an ad network recognises a returning visitor across sites and decides which ad to show.
- Google advertising cookies (
NID,IDE). These help Google's ad systems measure how ads perform and limit how often the same advert is shown to the same person. - Third-party partner cookies. Some regional AdSense partners set their own cookies or use similar technologies to collect information as a result of ad serving on this site. Their use of that information is governed by their own privacy policies.
- Ad choice and cross-site advertising. Google's use of the advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this and other sites.
Cookies in the advertising and analytics categories are set by third parties when advertising is served, not by us. You can block or clear them at any time using your browser settings or the opt-out tools listed in section 4.
2. How to control cookies
GameLedger does not show a cookie banner. Nothing is blocking your reading or your scrolling to get to the site, and you are never asked to click through a dialog before the page works. You have three ways to control cookies, and you can use any of them at any time, without asking us:
- Use your browser settings. Every current browser lets you block third-party cookies, block cookies entirely, or delete cookies on a per-site basis. Blocking advertising cookies does not break this site — the pages, the search, the theme switcher and the reviews all work without them.
- Use the industry opt-out tools. Google, the IAB Europe framework and a number of other providers let you opt out of personalised advertising across the whole web at once, without visiting this site. The links are in section 4.
3. Changing your browser settings
You can block or delete cookies directly, and the Site is designed to stay usable if you do. The controls live in slightly different places in each browser, but the names are similar:
- Chrome, Edge, Brave and Opera on desktop: open the padlock or the "site information" icon in the address bar, then "Cookies and site data". You can block third-party cookies for this site specifically, or delete existing data.
- Firefox on desktop: the hamburger menu, then "Privacy & Security", then "Cookies and Site Data". "Strict" and "Custom" both work; choose "Custom" and "Block third-party cookies" if you want to keep the site fully functional.
- Safari on macOS and iOS: "Settings", then "Privacy" (or "Privacy & Security"), then "Manage Website Data" to remove stored data, or the "Cookies" options to block them. On iOS, "Prevent Cross-Site Tracking" is the useful one.
- Chrome and Edge on Android: the three-dot menu, then "Settings", then "Privacy and security", then "Third-party cookies" and choose "Block third-party cookies".
- Safari on iOS: "Settings", then "Safari", then scroll to "Privacy & Security" and turn off "Prevent Cross-Site Tracking" only if you want tracking allowed.
Most browsers also offer a "clear cookies and site data when you close the window" option. That is a reasonable setting if you would rather start fresh each time. If you block cookies entirely, the theme switcher still works for the current page view and simply falls back to the default dark theme on your next visit.
4. Changing your mind later
Nothing about your browsing is gated behind a decision. There is no consent record to revisit here, because we do not ask you for one. If you want to be certain that no advertising identifier has been stored by this site, clear the site's cookies and local storage for gameguide003.northfivefun.com.
Opt-outs registered with the industry tools below are honoured by participating providers across the whole web, and they keep working after you clear this site's cookies. We do not read, store or act on any opt-out signal ourselves.
5. Opt-out links and tools
- AboutAds.info — opt out of third-party advertising cookies from participating providers, and see which partners are active.
- Yahoo Privacy Controls — opt out of advertising cookies used by Yahoo and its partners.
- Google Ads Settings — review and change how Google personalises advertising across the web and in apps.
- Google's third-party cookie notice — Google's own explanation of how it uses advertising cookies.
- Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on — for visitors who want to block Google analytics collection entirely.
- Privacy Options Tool — a user-friendly control that lets you opt out of sales for targeted advertising from participating companies.
6. Cookies on game pages and outgoing links
Game pages contain a "View on Google Play" button. Clicking it takes you to play.google.com, where Google's own cookies and privacy policies apply. We have no control over what is set there and we receive no information about your visit to the store beyond our own server logs, which are described in the Privacy Policy.
7. Do Not Track
Browsers can send a "Do Not Track" header. Because there is no agreed standard for how sites should respond, and because the advertising opt-out tools above do the job properly, we do not currently act on it. The controls on this page and in your browser are the reliable route.
8. Questions
If anything here is unclear, or you want to know exactly which cookies a specific page sets, email support@gameguide003.northfivefun.com and we will tell you. We would rather answer a question than have you guess.
